Discovery Reforms in Singapore

Serena Lim from Litigation Edge reports that Singapore is taking steps to streamline the discovery process.

The Supreme Court released a public consultation paper late last year and is interested in feedback on proposals put forward to speed up the discovery process and reduce associated costs. The proposals favour the discovery of electronic rather than hard copy documents. They also include mandatory meetings between parties to discuss their discovery plan and creating categories of documents which are deemed not reasonably accessible.

You can read all of the Singapore discovery proposals here.

@silverdane’s view: discovery can be an arduous and expensive process. It is great to see Singapore taking steps to make discovery more efficient and most importantly, cut costs. It will be interesting to monitor changes to their discovery rules.
